DURING THE 2003 BLACKOUT IN THE NORTHEAST, REPORTS INDICATE THAT 20% OF THE GENERATORS EITHER FAILED TO START OR FAILED SHORTLY AFTER STARTING.
A generator safety inspection identifies possible safety and reliability concerns associated with a poor installation, inadequate maintenance, and excessive wear and tear.
- Visual inspection of the generator set and transfer switch
- Check fluid levels
- Check batteries and battery charger operation
- Check block heater
- Inspect belts and hoses
- Check for water in fuel
- Test run unit (if possible)
